For the advanced poet a prize of $4000 awaits. Previous winners were Stephen Edgar, Judith Bishop, Alex Skovron and Ross Clark - all published and awarded poets. Short listed poems attract a prize of $250 each so this is a generous competition aimed at rewarding poets who whether published or not rarely make a profit from their labour. Give it a go! See ABR Website for a form.
ps Recommend you read the winning poets....

Quote:
They say Australians will put their money on anything - but what about a poem? "Pigeon Poetry" brings poetry and sport side by side!
The Red Room Company has commissioned eight poets from across the country to each write a poem that will be raced by thoroughbred pigeons on August 3, 2008. Head to our online form guide to study the poets, pigeons and poems that will race; enter the "sweep" for free; then come along to the race day, bring a picnic, and hear the poets read, check out the feathery field fashions, and have a flutter like no other...

Artists invited to Parramatta Riverbeats forum
You are invited to attend a specially convened Art on the Line Forum at Mars Hill Café, 331 Church St, Parramatta, on Saturday, August 16, at 4pm. Geoff Miller, the man behind Parramatta's unique signature event Riverbeats, will be there to discuss the vision for its long term development. The annual November program under the auspices of Parramatta City Council is now in its third year and is described as “an innovative and inspirational celebration of water and our relationship to it..”

Riverbeats, Parramatta River, November 2007
Artists have a major part in “an event with four streams that all flow together to form one, linked event…reuniting our community with the Parramatta River and encouraging engagement, discussion and solutions.” There are plans to expand on last year’s sculpture and performance projects and increase the involvement of established and emergent artists.
This is your chance to participate in a discussion of a program with a big future. You might be surprised at the range of creative and practical expertise Geoff brings to his role.
Meet other artists and keep up to date with arts developments in Parramatta over coffee and snacks, upstairs at Mars Hill Cafe, 331 Church St, Parramatta, Saturday, August 16, at 4pm. Proprietors Kevin and Lisa Crouse are so keen to encourage a good attendance at the forum that they are generously waiving the usual room hire fee.
