Craig Moffatt seeks to induce vivid imagery in his poetry and prose. He feels that it's important to delve into the subconscious and write from that realm. He likes to mix the mundane reality with the everyday moments of slipping into the void; to deal with the gap between our reality and our fantasies, our dreams and nightmares. He performs his pieces with the accompaniment of middle eastern sounds and live accoustic guitar. Craig is the Art Curator for Mars Hill Cafe in Parramatta. Craig's short prose work, "The Beach", is published in NWG Inc's print zine ZINEWEST .

CRAIG MOFFATT
Untitled (spoken word)

I am the corrosion of my consciousness
Make these sounds fluid
So they can soothe my mind

Am I the devil's fantasy?
Or my guardian angel's nightmare

Is my consciousness corrosive?

Burning holes in every thought
That pushes
Strives
To drive me further away from my reality.

I'm standing on the mountain top of my once frozen mind
Sometimes I wish I was back there
As I was oblivious to what I now see
I cannot go back as my mind has been set free

Peering through the torn cloth of reality
Seeing what used to scare me
But now I find sanctity
From my reality to my fantasy

I want to strive to bleed every word dry
From the moment of its conception
Till they become ancient old and remembered
Past the day of my death
So part of my living life will be giving living thought
To touch the mind of the haunted
So they can be set free
And help them realise
That they are exactly like me

I want to be a tree that will always bear fruit
So my love can thrive off me
And my children that live from me
Can live and love past the day that comes
That pushes me into the next unknown.

I think of all this on the mountain top of my once frozen mind
Knowing I'll climb further achieving distance through time.
